SUMMARY:Building Community Resilience to Address Addiction
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \nThe third and final workshop in the Aces & Trauma: Working Towards Resiliency series is Building Community Resilience to Address Addiction\, presented by Liz Blackwell-Moore. This free workshop will: \n\n\n\n\n\nExplain the role toxic stress\, caused by experiences in a household or in the community\, put a person at higher risk for early use of substances and problematic substance use.\nExamine protective community conditions within the ACE|R framework that can be implemented to prevent or reduce early use of substances and substance use disorders.\nIdentify collaborative strategies that participants can implement to improve community conditions for people and communities most at risk for behavioral health problems.\n\n\n\n\n\nDate & Time: Thursday February 11\, 2021 from 9:30am – 11:30am \nSpace for this workshop is limited\, so please register here: scphncommunityresilience.eventbrite.com \nWorkshop Overview:\nTrauma-informed approaches in order to build individual resilience are being used more widely to prevent\, reduce harm\, treat\, and support recovery from substance use disorder. Yet\, protective community conditions like affordable quality housing\, living wages\, safe public spaces\, strong relationships between neighbors\, and opportunities for restorative practices and diversion\, are missing for too many individuals and communities struggling with the highest rates of substance use disorder.  The lack of protective community conditions can undermine an individual’s efforts to improve their own lives.  In this workshop\, participants will explore community conditions that are necessary for people to thrive and what impact household\, community\, and environmental toxic stress have on addiction.  Participants will be introduced to the Adverse Community Experiences and Resilience (ACE|R) Framework\, and will work in small groups to discuss ways to work across the substance use continuum of care to build community resilience that will positively impact prevention\, harm reduction\, treatment\, and recovery efforts. \nCEU’s: CEUs for Certified Prevention Specialists are currently pending approval. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance. \n
