SUMMARY:Liquid Handcuffs - Documentary Screening
DESCRIPTION:SOS Recovery Community Organization and the Strafford County Public Health Network is excited to host a screening of Liquid Handcuffs: A Documentary to Free Methadone\, followed by a special panel discussion with directors Marilena Marchetti and Helen Redmond. To learn more and to watch the trailer\, visit https://www.liquidhandcuffsdoc.com/ \nSummary: \nFilmed in six countries \nAfghanistan\, Britain\, India\, Portugal\, Russia\, United States \nIn 2017\, the opioid-related overdose crisis killed 70\,000 people in the US. Methadone is the most successful treatment for opioid addiction and is proven to cut the death rate by half or more. So why is it easier to get heroin than methadone? \nLiquid Handcuffs: A Documentary to Free Methadone\, shines a spotlight on the closed world of methadone clinics. An international cast of methadone users\, activists\, and healthcare providers explain the benefits and the barriers to getting the medication. And drug policy expert Deborah Small provides commentary on the politics of methadone. \nLiquid Handcuffs: A Documentary to Free Methadone explores the intersection of methadone with race\, class\, social control\, and stigma. This is the first feature-length documentary that uses the lens of harm reduction to examine the methadone clinic system. \nEvent Accessibility \nThe event will take place at SOS Recovery Community Center\, 4 Broadway\, Dover\, NH. We will service light refreshments/ If you have questions email John Burns at John@sosrco.org or call us at 603-516-2776 \nRegister here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/liquid-handcuffs-a-documentary-to-free-methadone-tickets-64400007155?aff=efbevent&fbclid=IwAR3LEgUNMOWkL3trvCSBYf2IFqjhHwWh2LcQHSsUNfnu3S6jPgWiIEK8Xyg
